Back Pain FAQs

Considering the massive number of Americans who experience back pain every year, it’s no surprise that many people have many questions about the subject. At Meinecke Chiropractic in Grands Island, NE, we provide chiropractic care that addresses the root cause of the musculoskeletal complication leading to your back ache. Here are some FAQs about back aches that we have gotten.

.

What Causes Back Pain?

Pain in the back can be caused by various things, the most common of which are:

  • Whiplash: This is the sudden forceful forward and backward movement of the head that causes the neck muscles and ligaments to be torn. Besides pain in the back, whiplash is characterized by neck pain, stiffness, and tenderness.
  • Sciatica: This condition comes about after the base of the spine becomes compressed. Sciatica typically also causes numbness and tingling.
  • Subluxations: This is a condition spinal nerve becomes compressed by vertebrae, making it difficult for the brain to communicate well with the rest of the body

Does Having Back Pain Always Mean You Have a Spinal Issue?

Generally, having a backache doesn’t mean that you have a spinal issue. For example, people with pronated feet (flat-footed) usually have poor foot balance. This puts additional strain on the back muscles that depend on the feet for postural support; as a result, they commonly experience chronic back aches. You should visit a chiropractor for examination to find out whether your back aches are related to a spinal issue or it’s caused by something else. No matter the cause of your back aches, chiropractic treatment can alleviate the pain.

How Is Posture Related to Back Aches?

Postural challenges are the most prevalent cause of back and neck pain. If you have poor posture, the resulting stress imbalances can cause your back muscles to strain, stiffen, and become painful, leading to spinal misalignments. To figure out if you have the proper posture, you will need to visit a chiropractic clinic for postural screening. If you are diagnosed with poor posture, you will have to undergo chiropractic care to correct it and any other musculoskeletal problems it may have caused.

Do I Still Need to Take Pain Medication or Undergo Surgery After Starting Chiropractic Treatment?

Once you start chiro treatment, you will ditch pain medication because you will no longer need them. Moreover, you won’t have to undergo surgery as your spinal or joint issue will be treated non-invasively. There is no medication or surgery involved in chiropractic therapy, and it has no side effects. You will start experiencing pain relief during your first chiro therapy session.
